When we first encountered Nyukix, our hearts sang “¡Viva España!” for weeks on end. We were already enchanted by KateKey_cosplay, yet Nyukix—her spectacles in everyday life and her Bayonetta cosplay, worn as a graceful reconciliation with her self-consciousness about her eyes—struck us as nothing short of prodigious.

Cosplay, for all its apparent ease, is no simple undertaking. Some imagine it requires little more than prettiness and a well-timed arch of the back in a Makima costume. In truth, to cosplay is to surrender a part of oneself to characters that speak to us, characters that, in return, cast their own revealing light upon the cosplayer. We have said before that it is a singular form of acting—an art that Nyukix commands with rare mastery, rendering her all but unrecognisable as she slips, chameleon-like, from one persona to the next.

Cosplay is a new verb thanks to cosplayers talent. In the last years, they have been able to popularize animes so much that you instantly know which character they cosplay.
We can already hear the chorus of the enraged, ready to lecture us on precisely how a body ought to be. We love Nyukix’s body exactly as it is.
Do not let anybody tell that your body is possible or not.
